St. David's Foundation has established the St. David's Neal Kocurek Scholarship Fund to honor its late president and CEO, W. Neal Kocurek (1936-2004).

Dr. Kocurek's leadership and collaboration skills helped shape Central Texas in many ways, influencing health care, public education, higher education, social equity, transportation, and regional stewardship. A natural mentor, he was an advisor to generations of school superintendents and educators who served Austin children. His vision strengthened health services and access to health care for future generations of Central Texans.  

A native Austinite, Dr. Kocurek never stopped learning about or contributing to the community he loved. Our scholarship program seeks students who embody his commitment to leadership and community.

Following are the application requirements for the scholarships (to be used during the 2010-2011 school year). The awarded scholarships will be up to $6,000 per year, for up to four years. Post-graduate scholarships may be awarded pending the student maintain the minimum requirements. In order to be eligible, the following requirements must be met:

1. You must be a 2010 graduating senior within Travis, Williamson, or Hays counties.
2. You have been accepted at an accredited higher education college or university to pursue a degree in a health-care-related discipline.
3. You must attend an accredited Texas-based college or university as a full-time student (12+ units/semester).
4. If asked, you must be able to attend an in-person interview the week of
May 10, 2010.
5. You must be a United States Citizen or a legal non-citizen resident.
6. You must pass a background check. There can be no conviction for violating any federal or state laws for alcohol or drugs.
7. The application, SAT scores, essay, photo, letters of recommendation, tax forms, transcripts, and proof of U.S. citizenship must be received at St. David's Community Health Foundation by 4:00 p.m. on March 12, 2010.

Consideration will be given in the review process to students who demonstrate financial need to pursue their higher education.
